Shed Care and Maintenance

Congratulations on the purchase of your new Riverside Structures building. To ensure the longevity of your structure, please review the following suggestions for your shed’s care and maintenance.  

• Your building is very unique, as it is handcrafted with a wood product and constructed using no electricity.  Our masterful Amish builders use a combination of green lumber that is milled only a few days before construction and kiln dried lumber. The freshly cut lumber contains moisture and requires important and specific steps for wood storage shed care. The most important step in ensuring your building dries correctly, is to allow maximum airflow. It is highly recommended that you leave all doors and windows open until your building’s lumber is dry. If mold becomes present, brush it off with a broom and spray the contaminated area with a 50/50 bleach and water mix.  
• Our sheds are built on two skids. These runners elevate your buildings floor, which allows air circulation under the foundation and provides protection against moisture and insects. If skirting is used around the perimeter of the wood foundation, you must use lattice or other material that will allow for proper air circulation.  
• Do not mound soil or mulch against the siding of your shed, as this can cause excessive moisture to build up around those areas. 
• We recommend as a general shed care and maintenance practice that you stain or paint your building every few years to ensure the enjoyment of your quality made building for many years.
